Baby, It's Cold Outside! Colorful Ice Orbs (Or Rocks!)
This activity is easy and fun.
All you need is: Round latex balloons (as many as you'd like!) Food Coloring Water faucet COLD WEATHER!
Take several drops of food coloring and drop into your balloon.
Fill at your faucet to the size you'd prefer, knot shut.
Shake the balloons well to make sure the coloring is all mixed up.
Knot the balloon. (It's ok if there's air in the top. You'll use this flat part to stand the orb up when it's frozen.
Stand them up somewhere, or if you have the option, hang them by the knot so they will harden rounded on the bottom. (You can use a clothesline and some string, or tie them to a tree branch. We DIDN'T do it this time around because our guy wanted to make colorful "rocks" instead. We just stood them up and propped them with a welcome mat.)
Allow them to harden overnight. (It's -2 in Chicagoland right now!)
Bring them in and cut the balloon to remove. (You might want to have some baby wipes or paper towels handy in case the coloring didn't mix well. I currently have pink and blue fingers.)
Take them back outside and decorate with them. Your walkway, etc. (Such a cute idea for Christmas- red and green ice orbs up and down the walkway!)
You now have a beautiful and colorful orb (or in our case, a jellybean looking rock) to place on your walkway for the sun to catch.
