Consumer Protection Promise
One of the reasons I love the MommyGyver platform, our website, social media, and subscriber pages is that you guys reach out a lot for guidance. You comment and ask for information on everything from a rumor about a MLM that's gaining a little buzz, to questions about product recommendations and where to find a deal on them. The MommyGyver platform is about all things moms and women might be interested in. A lot of you have found this website because you're just tired of being ripped off by one company or another and you come here to hear the latest about what's going on! Over the last year, I've frequently published articles about pending and active class actions that involve products and brands we all know. There are millions of you that this website reaches- and what better way to get valuable information to you about refunds and potential suits and settlements than to share it here! I've dedicated a portion of the blog to Consumer Protection, and I'm proud to announce my partnership with the awesome family of folks at the Pirl Consumer Protection group. Pirl is a unique firm that combines legal experience and knowledge, a strong relationship with some of the largest and best class action firms around. What this means for you and me, the consumers, is a dedicated group of grass-roots type professionals that spend their time advocating for regular people. These are real people that spend their time collecting and organizing information to distribute to consumers, gather their information, and bring it back to the law firms that are then advocating for the classes of consumers they will represent. Stephanie Lair started the company with people like you in mind. She says- “I created Pirl to help consumers like me; like my sister and brother-in-law who just bought a new house; like my best friend who has children under the age of seven; like my neighbor who has a parent in assisted living; and like every consumer out there who has put their trust in a company and been harmed—physically or financially—by bad business practices.” She goes on to say that The Pirl-concept first crystallized in her mind while she was working as a researcher for a large litigation consulting company. There, Lair saw just how much litigation involved affected consumers; however, the firm with which Lair was working was speaking about issues that affected consumers without actually involving the consumer themselves. To Lair, that was both dangerous and unacceptable, so she resolved to take that top-down model, restyle it, and bring it directly to consumers instead. “At its most basic,” Lair says “Pirl is all about a desire to give voice to the voiceless.” Over the past year, I've shared some information about Pirl's efforts- from a Jeep recall to Gotham Steel potential class action. Now, I'll be putting more focus into sharing even more of the Pirl efforts. If you're a potential class member for one issue or not, it's extremely important that we share the information. Over $500,000,000 in unclaimed funds from consumer protection actions are wasted every year. It only makes sense that this platform would strive to help you, the consumer, recover some of those funds for yourselves. It's also important for me to note that Pirl has someone, a real person and team member to reach out to almost always. If by chance, someone is not there to assist- you can be assured that a real person will follow up. Stephanie says- “We are real people, real people who care. We are more than just a static webpage or some bot responding to emails. When you reach out to Pirl you can be assured that there will be a real live person on the other end of the line. A real person who cares and can get you access to the resources you need.” And this is true. In the Pirl Faebook Group, the WEBSITE, or via email, Pirl guarantees that someone cares and they will be there to help you get the information you need, and get you connected to the potential or active class action you're looking for. The in-house team (aka, the real people) are comprised of: Stephanie- (CEO/Owner):Born and raised in Boulder, CO, Stephanie made the move to southwestern Montana in 2013. Her first experience in advocacy was working as an in-home caregiver for a local non-profit organization. She then contributed to pro-bono work in the Mark Wandering Medicine v. State of Montana voting rights case – forcing the installation of satellite voting centers on reservations in 5-states, followed by press releases for The California Civil Rights Justice Group for work on a 1st Amendment case regarding racist emails sent from former Federal Judge Richard Cebull.Stephanie created Pirl with a team of like-minded consumer advocates with the main goal of helping consumers and holding big corporations accountable. She is our resident nerd with Pi tattooed on her arm and passionate to a fault – especially in medical device/product liability cases. Nothing fires her up more than learning of a product harming people, and the manufacturer not taking responsibility. She is a “dog with a bone” when it comes to Pirl and consumers – it is a daily occurrence for her husband Mike to (try to) pull her away from her desk and hide her phone. When Stephanie is away from her desk, she is either on a snowboard or golf course, cooking and grilling, beating Mike at cribbage, or walking the family/company dog, Niner. She is a foodie, beer/wine/spirit enthusiast, live music seeker, and most importantly – she is the boss and welcomes the responsibility! Doug- (Operations) – Hello, my name is Doug. I’ve spent most of my life advocating for the marginalized and working to give a voice to those who feel voiceless. Whether that’s through community organizing, direct action campaigns, lobbying efforts, or the courts, the pursuit of justice remains my guiding Polaris. Areas of interest: prisoners’ rights; ADA compliance; free speech; safe access to safe medicines; product liability; and consumer safety. Mike-(Background noise)-Mike, at most times, gets us referrals to National Plaintiffs Firms and Organizations for Civil Rights, Civil Justice and stoking the rallying the cry for opposition to Mass Incarceration in America. Before settling into the poverse (it’s poverty in SciFi terms) of activism, he had been in the trenches of Corporate Mergers & Acquisitions, and more recently, as a Litigation Consultant to large scale National Class Actions for three decades. Along the way, he picked up an ability to navigate the American Judicial system, most times to people’s benefit, a couple times to his detriment. Mike is lending a hand to us for a brief while, in talking to client law firms. When not bending to the will of the “Girl with the Pie Tattoo” (his wife and our fearless leader, Stephanie) at Pirl, he is on the Harley, fly fishing, practicing golf - always the cribbage master at Pirl - and/or enjoying a Scotch. Samantha- (Research Associate – Secretary - Background Noise): Samantha has been a Pirl consumer advocate for over 2 years now. She comes complete with an ECE, Sociology, and a Biology degree with an emphasis in chemistry. Her passion to hold corporations up to high moral standards drives her research. She takes corporate responsibility seriously and is not afraid of the time, energy, or dedication it takes to make sure those that mislead, deceive, or harm consumers are held responsible. She is open minded but values the importance of integrity. Although not always soft spoken, her nature is caring and that shows through the material she produces. Away from the office Samantha enjoys managing a local community group, The Phyto Sleuths of Gallatin Valley, where she helps others to identify local plant species on trail hikes, and creates herbal concoctions including wildcrafted tinctures, salves, and syrups. She also operates an informative natural beauty and cleansing routine website, Beauti PhiⓇ, where she helps to inform the public of the biochemical dangers of certain mass-produced products while suggesting what alternatives to use. With Samantha's determination, intuitive knowledge, and passion - she makes a great addition to the Pirl team!
Katie- Katie dove head first into consumer advocacy almost six months ago. Her passion began with a mission to help fight the good fight against one major company. This has since branched out into her work with Pirl, where she is a member of the research team. She is working hard to bring more awareness through Pirl’s social media presence. The spark that started Katies consumer advocacy career is her seemingly tireless efforts in opening people’s eyes to the scams of the Multi-Level Marketing world. She runs a facebook group and is cohost of the podcast Sounds like MLM but ok. When she's not battling the world of bad business dragons, she can be found in her garden or spending time with her husband and sweet kiddo. Niner (Mascot) – Begs for belly rubs and left overs. Keeps our moral up in the office. And then there's a few of us in the field- like me- connecting these fine folks to you- to get your protection on. However you reach out or follow the efforts of Pirl and the team, make sure you sign up (home page, scroll all the way down) for the mailing list to be updated on upcoming cases, in case you miss them here!
