McDonald's linked to Cyclospora
Shared from mypirl.com: The FDA, CDC, and numerous state & local officials are investigation McDonald’s Fresh Express Salad Mix that has been linked to 476 confirmed cases of Cyclospora infections. Each individual with the confirmed Cyclospora infection reported consuming salads from their local McDonald’s restaurants; the cases were reported by 15 different states.
Of the 476 cases reported, 21 have been hospitalized. The following states have reported outbreaks: CT, FL, IA, IL, IN, KY, MI, MN, MO, NE, OH, SD, TN, VA, WI.
Note: The Connecticut, Tennessee, and Virginia case-patients purchased salads while traveling in Illinois; the Florida case-patient purchased a salad while traveling in Kentucky.
What is Cyclospora? Cyclospora cayetanensis is a parasite, too small to be seen without a microscope, that causes an intestinal infection called cyclosporiasis. It is spread by ingesting foods or water contaminated with fecal matter. Within 1 week of infection an individual becomes ill. Illness symptoms include watery diarrhea, loss of appetite, weight loss, stomach cramps/pain, bloating, nausea, vomiting, headaches, body aches, fever, and fatigue. If not treated properly these symptoms could last upwards to a month – which could be fatal.
I don’t know anyone who still eats at that toxic waste land, but if you happen to eat here and think the salads are a ‘healthier’ choice – think again!
